MANLY QLD AUSTRALIA

The Phantom 40 is an Australian built cruiser/racer mast head sloop with a raised saloon giving a 2 meter headroom, doing away with having to turn around to negotiate a ladder for entry.

Instead there are 2 stairs into the saloon and then 2 more down into the galley, head and Captains cabin.

She has the added advantages of a second set of controls at the internal helm position with good visibility, yet out of the weather and without the feeling of being below deck.

The hull is solid fibreglass, the keel is fibreglass encased lead and the deck moulding is foam sandwich.

In total about Phantom 100 32/33/40’s were built from the late 70’s to mid 90’s keeping them apart from the high production boats and therefore the cheaper construction

The boat is particularly stiff. Inclination tests carried out for survey put her at heeling 12 degrees where an angle of heel of 25 degrees is allowed under test conditions.

Phantom Yachts were built to exceed standards laid down by Lloyds and USL Code for GRP yachts and constructed to M.S.B. survey standards.

The hull is hand laid under personal supervision of Nick Shein.

Phantoms have a reputation as a tough boat, inspired by the S&S34.

Lived aboard comfortably for a few years but then the family became too large.
